WORLD VITILIGO DAY

BAYAHÍBE, REP. DOMINICAN

The Dr. Gabriel Serrano, the Dominican Institute of Dermatology and Skin Surgery and the team at the World Vitiligo Research Association have developed an extensive program for WORLD VITILIGO DAY 2024

Official Announcement: World Vitiligo Day 2024 Headquarters in the Dominican Republic

The World Vitiligo Day (WVD) Committee proudly announces the Dominican Republic as the host for WVD 2024. This momentous event will be held under the esteemed honorary presidency of Dr. Gabriel Serrano, a distinguished figure in dermatology and skincare research.

Gratitude to the WVD 2023 Team in Kazakhstan

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the WVD 2023 team in Kazakhstan, led by Drs. Aliya Kassymkhanova and Anar Abdrakhmanova. They achieved unprecedented media coverage and successfully integrated multiple Kazakh cities into the campaign, setting new benchmarks for World Vitiligo Day.

Embracing a New Challenge: WVD 2024 in the Dominican Republic

Each year, WVD focuses on a new country as its campaign headquarters, highlighting the global nature of the initiative. The campaign has significantly increased awareness and understanding of vitiligo, leading to greater public interest and media coverage. It has also successfully engaged 'Big Pharma' in drug development for vitiligo, with the first FDA-approved drug and a few more in the late stages of development.

The selection of the Dominican Republic as the WVD 2024 headquarters underscores our commitment to healthcare excellence and global outreach. With a population of 11 million and an influx of nine million tourists annually, this vibrant Caribbean nation presents a unique opportunity to boost vitiligo awareness. The Dominican Republic boasts a robust healthcare system, seamlessly integrated with the international insurance system and endorsed by global accreditations.

Recent studies indicate that about 1.1% of the population exhibits signs of vitiligo, with a concerning 30% potentially undiagnosed. Under Dr. Serrano's guidance, WVD 2024 is committed to enhancing awareness, fostering early diagnosis, and supporting informed treatment choices.

The WVD 2024 Program

Dr. Gabriel Serrano and the WVD team have developed an extensive program for WVD 2024, including:

- Scientific Day (June 23): A symposium for professionals to discuss vitiligo research and treatments.

- Clinical Day (June 24): Interactive sessions for healthcare providers, focusing on vitiligo management.

- Patient Day (June 25): Activities for vitiligo patients, including free skin check-ups and consultations.

- Additionally, WVD 2024 will feature a rolling Digital Day, making the event globally accessible through webcasts, recordings, and an AI Guide on Vitiligo.
